Salvage Systems Winches
In the early 1980s, INTERCON produced its first traction winch for a contractor supporting the US Navy’s Fly Away Deep Ocean Salvage System (FADOSS). Since that time, Intercon has produced many more traction winches, as well as storage reels, and all-pneumatic ship motion compensators (SMCs) to support salvage operations around the world. Intercon’s salvage systems have been used to recover wreckage from the Challenger space shuttle explosion, debris from the Titan submersible, and an MH-60S Seahawk off the coast of Okinawa lying in 19,075ft, the deepest ever recovery of an airframe. While the systems can be permanently installed, they are all designed for portability, allowing the use of local vessels with sufficient deck space, rather than requiring extensive transits of dedicated salvage vessels.
